According to reports from Spanish Media outlet Mundo Deprotivo, Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has urged the Old Trafford hierarchy to offer €40m to Real Madrid for securing the services of Raphael Varane.
The Red Devils are desperate to strengthen their defensive back-line and Varane would be a great signing for the Premier League giants. The 21 year old is one of the best young centre backs in the world but he is currently third choice for Madrid behind Pepe and Sergio Ramos in the heart of the defense. However, Varane has claimed that he loves the competition.
Having said that, Varane is indispensable for the French national team and coach Didier Deschamps wants to see him playing regularly. The youngster has just played 23 times this season, 16 of those which were in the League.
Thus moving to the Premier League would get him enough game time and Van Gaal who has given youngsters the time to shine in his illustrious managerial career, it will be a win-win situation for both the player and United.
Varane though has a contract with the Los Galacticos till 2020 and have no intention to sell the player. But it remains to be seen if United’s €40m bid in the summer could change their stance. It’s getting interesting and we will have the answer in the coming months.
