Manchester United winger Nani returned to Old Trafford yesterday to take part in a friendly match against Argentina. The winger has been loaned out to Sporting in a part exchange deal that saw Marcos Rojo joining United in summer.
Nani is loved in Portugal and under a supportive environment he has produced some of his best performances in years. There were rumours that Manchester United might recall Nani back in the January transfer window.
The Portugal winger said yesterday after the match:
“I feel happy that the fans (of Manchester United) care and that they want me return. Is it (a return) possible in January? I don’t know. I can’t say, I don’t know my future.”
“Why not? I went out [to Sporting] to play more and get to my best. If there is an opportunity, we will see.”
However, Sporting are confident that Nani won’t leave them in January.
“There is no clause allowing Nani’s departure in January. Moreover, Sporting is not willing to negotiate the early return Manchester United player,” was the official response of the Sporting to newspaper Record.
So, there it is. Manchester United cannot recall him in January, but Nani can continue his career with the Old Trafford giants next season.
