Manchester United to beat Man City for €50m defender?

This summer is going to be massive for Manchester United. A new permanent manager is expected to be in charge, and he would be given a hefty transfer budget to bring in quality players at Old Trafford.

While bolstering the midfield remains the top priority, focus should be laid on bringing in quality players in defence. Skipper Nemanja Vidic is set to leave the club while the future of Rio Ferdinand is also doubtful.

The Guardian’s Daniel Taylor recently tweeted about United’s interest in Porto’s highly rated defender Eliaquim Mangala.

Portugal newspaper A Bola however feels it’s very likely that Mangala will be playing at one of the Manchester clubs next season.

According to this report, United might have the edge over their derby rivals, because City need to comply with the financial fair play regulations, which might curb their spending this summer.

Porto own 56,67% of his economic rights while the player has a €50m buy-out clause. Should United trigger his release clause to land the Frenchman?
