According to Spanish newspaper ‘AS’, Manchester United saw a £17m bid for Filipe Luis rejected by Atletico Madrid in January.
It has been common knowledge that David Moyes is looking to revamp his current United squad, with the defence in dire need of an overhaul.
Patrice Evra looks certain to move on in the summer, and with primary target Leighton Baines committing his future to Everton, ‘AS’ (via Tuttomercatoweb) have claimed that Moyes switched focus onto securing Ateltico’s Brazilian left-back.
Luis, who has been a regular starter for Atletico for the past four seasons, is also adept to playing in midfield, and is known for his ferocious style of play, with endless running a real feature of the hard-working defender’s game.
Manchester United had also been linked with Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao and Southampton’s Luke Shaw last month, but it seems that the struggling champions plumped for the 28-year-old Luis, but to no avail.

United failed to bring a defender to Old Trafford last month, and considering the current plight of the club, typified by the demoralising 2-2 draw with Fulham on Sunday, Moyes could very well return for the Luis in the upcoming summer market.
