Manchester United are exploring the possibility of signing French winger Dimitri Payet this summer. The Red Devils have enquired about the possibility of signing the West Ham star and are looking at a fee nearer to €60m to lure him to join Old Trafford.
While United have shifted all their focus on signing Paul Pogba, the club is in need of another winger and Payet certainly, would be a great addition to the squad.
According to reports from France Football, Manchester United are interested in signing Payet, who is also wanted by Inter Milan.
Payet joined West Ham last season from Marseille and made a strong impact in the league, scoring nine Premier League goals for the Hammers. The 29-year-old was a key member of Didier Deschamp’s France squad for Euro 2016 and impressed heavily throughout the tournament, scoring three goals for Les Blues.
West Ham are reluctant to sell Payet and would demand around £75m for the player. He has signed a new contract recently and the club have no intentions of selling him at the moment.
Manchester United can tempt Payet with a lucrative offer but West Ham would still likely to reject an offer from any Premier League rival club.
France Football claims that Payet is likely to stay with the Hammers despite the reported interest from several top European clubs. He is 29 and not many clubs would be willing to pay a massive transfer fee for him as “return on investment for a future buyer is impossible”.
Fair enough but France Football probably were not following the transfer market closely. Just two words for them – Gonzalo Higuain.
