According to reports in Italian media outlet Sports Mediaset, Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal is desperate to sign AC Milan midfielder Nigel De Jong as a backup for prime target Arturo Vidal from Juventus.
The 29 year old was a key figure for the Dutch side in the World Cup and the player having worked under Van Gaal would be open for a move to Old Trafford. It is believed that the Red Devils’ executive Vice Chairman Ed Woodward has already spoken to the player’s agent and has is willing to offer €10m to Milan for acquiring the player’s services.
However the new Rossoneri manager Filippo Inzaghi rates De Jong as a vital cog in his squad and would be unwilling to let go the player. However the San Siro outfit are in need of cash to strengthen their squad further in the transfer window and the figure might tempt the Italian giants to part with the hard tackling midfielder.
De Jong has valuable Premier Legaue experience after having featured for Manchester City earlier in his career and Van Gaal is a huge admirer of the player’s qualities. It can be more or less said that should De Jong be given a choice, he would jump at the offer to switch loyalties for the Old Trafford outfit.
