Manchester United have been busy this week in the transfer market.
The Red Devils have completed the signing of Marcos Rojo from Sporting club and appear to be closing in on 2014 UEFA Champions League winner Ángel Di María.
Manager Louis van Gaal is still believed to be interested in another defender and a holding midfielder.
If the Daily Star‘s reports are correct the Dutch manager could have those positions filled before the end of the summer transfer window with reports claiming United are closing in on two of van Gaal’s squad from the 2014 World Cup.
The newspaper reports that Manchester United are closing in on Daley Blind and Nigel de Jong.
Ajax’s Daley Blind is a versatile player who is capable of playing left-back, left wingback or even holding midfield. He was a key part of the Netherlands side that finished third at this summer’s World Cup, conceding only four goals in their seven matches.
A number of sources have reported the 24-year old is available for £16 million.
Nigel de Jong has Premier League experience with Manchester City. The 29-year old is a solid holding midfielder who would add strength in front of the back four. He’s also one happy to sit deep and not venture forward.
Some newspapers have suggested AC Milan need to sell players to raise funds for the club who failed to qualify for European football this season. The Italian giants have already sold Mario Balotelli to Liverpool for what many consider to be a bargain at £16 million.
The most common price quoted regarding de Jong’s potential transfer from AC Milan to Manchester United is £10 million.
Manchester United have so far spent £72 million on three players this summer – Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo. Reports today also suggest Ángel Di María could be arriving at Old Trafford this week in a deal worth more than £60 million.
