Manchester United’s Paul Pogba and Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante have been given the nod for France as they face Uruguay at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium in the quarter-final of the 2018 World Cup – a game that could go either way.

France are favourites to come out on top and reach the semi-finals, but Uruguay shouldn’t be underestimate given how flawless they’ve been in the group stages and last-16.
Didier Deschamps’ France side finished top of Group C with seven points from three games, beating Australia 2-1 and Peru 1-0 before drawing 0-0 with Denmark. In the last-16, Les Blues beat Argentina 4-3 to make it this far in the tournament. Kylian Mbappe has three goals from as many starts and will be the danger man against Uruguay.
As for Óscar Tabárez’s side, Uruguay finished top of Group with nine points from their three games, beating Egypt 1-0, Saudi Arabia 1-0 and Russia 3-0. They beat Portugal 2-1 in the last-16 to the reach the quarter-finals and have Edinson Cavani to thank for his three goals in the tournament.
France had a good defensive record until they shipped three against Argentina in the last-16, while Uruguay have only conceded one goal in the entire tournament. The South American outfit have the firepower to hurt France – Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani – so they’re a major threat at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.
That’s not to say France’s squad which contains Raphel Varane, Samuel Umtiti, Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante, Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann should be ruled out either. Friday’s clash should be competitive.
