Manchester United are still keen to lure Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, however they want the Lilywhites to lower the price.
Spurs are reportedly demanding a fee in the region of £60 million for the services of the Belgian international.
United manager Jose Mourinho however feels that this is too much and is wanting to pay about £40 million.
United enjoyed arguably their best season since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson last season.
Though they ended the season without silverware, they ended off the Premier League in second position- their highest placing in the top-flight since the retirement of Sir Alex in 2013.
Mourinho’s men were however never a threat to eventual winners Manchester City and one of the areas which they need to bolster ahead of next season is their defence.
They could certainly do with the addition of Alderweireld who is one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
If Alderweireld does not agree to a new deal with Spurs this summer, the North London club will be inclined to sell as he has a £25 million release clause in his contract which can be triggered from next summer.
