Otamendi has been a target for Manchester United all summer and now City have swooped in late to clinch the deal.
Deporte claim that City had an agreement with Valencia for a player plus cash deal involving Eliaquim Mangala, but the Frenchman refused to leave Etihad and it almost scuppered the deal.
However, it appears that super agent Jorge Mendes has sorted out the situation and is in Manchester now to finalise the transfer.
Otamendi has a release clause of 50 million euros, but City have negotiated a deal for less.
Manchester City demolished the Premier League Champions, Chelsea, 3-0 on Sunday and are looking a good bet for the title already. The addition of Otamendi and potentially De Bruyne will be a big blow to the other title aspirants Chelsea, United and Arsenal.
Manchester United’s need for a world class centre back is no secret and Van Gaal wanted to sign the Argentine as a priority addition. However, it seems City have yet again beaten United to a key signing after having done the same in case of Silva, Nasri etc in the past.
Otamendi transfer is likely to be made official soon.
