Manchester United have been boosted in their pursuit of Dutch winger as PSV Eindhoven manager Phillip Cocu has confirmed that the player is likely to leave the club in the coming summer. The 21 year old became the youngest player to score a goal in World Cup history was also linked with United last summer but any sort of deal failed to materialize.
The youngster has been in exquisite form this season having already scored 18 goals in just 23 appearances and Cocu is resigned to losing the his prized asset. The manager who spoke Sport Express ahead of PSV’s Europa League tie Zenit St Petersburg said (as relayed by Manchester Evening news),”Yes, I think he’s going to leave PSV after this season.”
The report also states that Louis Van Gaal who brought Depay into the Netherlands squad is regarded as a father-figure by the PSV forward. Thus it would be an enticing prospect for the player to reunite with Van Gaal at United next season.
Cocu also believes that Depay could emulate Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben in the coming years, “Whether he can be as good as Arjen Robben? I think so.”
“They are different players, but they are both fast and have a good shot. And both always have the urge to learn. But Memphis is only 21-years-old and only in a few years can real conclusions be drawn.”
