According to the Italian media, Manchester United have submitted a €25m offer for Argentine defensive midfielder, Lucas Biglia.
It is believed that Lazio have rejected United’s initial offer and are holding out for a fee in the region of €40m. If reports are to be believed, it is evident that Van Gaal is set to revamp his midfield this season.
The former Ajax and Barcelona manager has already signed two quality midfielders in Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton and Bastian Schweinsteiger from Bayern Munich.
Lazio president, Claudio Lotito confirmed that the Italians have turned down an offer from Manchester United for Lucas Biglia as it was way below their valuation of the player.
Biglia is strong and intelligent defensive midfielder with astute positional sense and great reading of the game. Further, his interception skills will also allow United to play a wide range of systems including a pressing one or a counter attacking system.
Whether United match Lazio’s asking price remains to be seen. 40 million euros is a lot, considering the age of the Argentine, but the 29 year old will add valuable experience and instant defensive solidarity to United’s midfield and help them challenge for the title.
Also, if United hold on to Marouane Fellaini it seems unlikely that they will come back with an improved offer for another central midfielder.
