Liverpool winger, Lazar Marković, could join Premier League side, Hull City, on loan in the January transfer window. The Serbian winger is likely to see his season-long loan with Sporting CP cancelled, and could play for Hull City for the rest of the season.
The 22-year-old has made just 14 appearances for Sporting in all competitions, and the Portugal club are considering to cancel Marković’s loan spell in Lisbon. He was left out of Jorge Jesus’ squad for Saturday’s 2-2 draw away to Maritimo, and the winger is expected to return to Liverpool this month.
According to reports from Liverpool Echo, Marković will not be joining Klopp’s first team squad. Hull City are lining up a deal to sign him on loan, and Jürgen Klopp, the Reds manager, is happy to sanction the move.
Marković joined Liverpool in 2014 for a fee of £20m, but failed to establish himself at Anfield. He has made 34 appearances for the Reds, and spent time on loan to Fenerbahce in 2015/16.
Klopp included Marković in his squad for the pre-season, but the German wasn’t too impressed with the Serbian. He decided to loan him back to the Portuguese Liga, where surprisingly, he faltered. Sadio Mané‘s absence this month has highlighted the need of a pacy wide player in Klopp’s squad, but the German still probably won’t use Marković in that role. The former Dortmund manager could rather use young academy players like – Sheyi Ojo and Bed Woodburn – both of whom featured in January’s 1-0 victory away to Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup third round.
Hull City manager, Marco Silva, is well aware of Marković’s talent from his time in the Primeira Liga. The Serbian would add quality and depth to the squad as Hull City are preparing for Premier League survival. It remains to be seen how Marković adapts himself to the new challenge, given that he found himself a fish out of water in Merseyside.
