According to reports from Italy, Liverpool are looking into the possibility of bringing AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong to Anfield this month.
Brendan Rodgers is in the market for a defensive midfielder this January, with the Brazilian Lucas ruled out for up to two months with knee ligament damage.
Former Manchester City battler De Jong has been identified as a possible option, according to SportMediaSet, and Liverpool are said to have already made their interest known to Milan.
However, Corriere Dello Sport reports that new Milan manager Clarence Seedorf holds reservations over letting the Dutch midfielder leave this month.
Valued at about £7m, De Jong has been ever present in the Milan lineup this season, with the 29-year-old having played 28 times for the Rossoneri so far this campaign.
De Jong is well remembered in England after playing over 100 games for Man City from 2009-12, and also for the now infamous ‘kung-fu’ kick on former Liverpool man Xabi Alonso in the 2010 World Cup Final.
Nicknamed ‘the Lawnmower‘ due to his tenacious style of play, De Jong could be a decent, albeit short-term replacement for Lucas in the heart of the Liverpool midfield, if they can extract him from Milan.
What do you think? Could De Jong do a job at Liverpool? Let me know in the comments below…
