Lucas Leiva’s future is still unclear and there is an every possibility that Liverpool would sign a new central midfielder in the summer.

According to reports from La Tercera, Liverpool are seemingly interested in signing Chilean midfielder Gary Medel, who plays for Inter Milan.

Inter are aware they could lose Medel after his impressive performance in the Copa America. Host of European clubs are interested in signing him. Turkish club Galatasaray and Premier League club Liverpool are thought to be heavily interested, with the latter looking to replace Gerrard and see Medel as a possibility for that position.

The Serie A giants have spent 35m on Kondogbia, who is likely to play in Medel’s position, so they might be willing to sell the Chilean defender.

Inter’s sporting director said: “Gary is an important player, he’s key for us. But now we have to complete our attack after Podolski left. Further forward, we’ll do an analysis with the coach and decide which players leave.”
