After missing out on Memphis Depay to Manchester United, reports from the Mirror claim that Liverpool have now seat their eyes on Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. It is believed that the 25 year old Gabon International who has terrific pace and a great eye for goals fits in the traits that the Reds are looking for in a a striker come this summer.
Aubameyang has been a long term target of the Anfield side and the Reds have been keeping tabs on the player ever since he was at French side Saint-Etienne. In 2013, Aubameyang joined Dortmund and has forged a great partnership with Marco Reus up front, but hasn’t quite been able to replace Robert Lewandowski who joined Bayern Munich last summer.
With manager Jurgen Klopp leaving Dortmund in the summer, several of Dortmund’s players could leave as Liverpool are trying to take advantage of the situation. The reports states that Liverpool will enquire about the striker’s transfer price and could well move ahead with a deal if it suits their budget.
With Daniel Sturridge on the sidelines for several months this season and Luis Suarez leaving for Barcelona, Liverpool have struggled to get goals. Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini have all failed to deliver as the Reds hierarchy are now trying to bring in a quality striker. Beside Aubameyang, Burnley’s Danny Ings is a also a transfer target for the Reds.
