Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana is set for a scan after picking up a groin injury during the 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday. The Daily Express reports that the 26 year old is thus set to become the latest England player o withdraw from the national squad for the games with Lithuania and Italy.
Lallana was replaced at half time by captain Steven Gerrard while Liverpool were trailing 1-0 thanks to a well taken Juan Mata strike. Gerrard though lasted less than a minute as he was sent off after stamping on Ander Herrera seconds after coming on to the pitch.
Lallana had a poor outing against United and missed a glorious opportunity to restore parity when United were still leading by 1-0. He was however withdrawn after getting caught heavily by Phil Jones in a tough challenge.
The former Southampton man is a key player for Roy Hodgson’s England side and the recent developments will come as a major blow ahead of the Three Lions’ Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania. Earlier Fraser Forster and Luke Shaw had already been withdrawn with Robert Green, Jack Butland and Danny Rose taking their places.
