Liverpool have agreed a £7m deal to sign Southampton striker Rickie Lambert. According to reports from Liverpool Echo, the fee will be in the region of £4m, plus add-ons.
The Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to add a strong cover for striker duo Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge and has identified Lambert as perfect recruit, who with his strong physical presence would add a different dimension to the system.
Liverpool prepare to strengthen the squad for the next season, as Champions League returns to Anfield for the first time in many years, thus adding another good striker to the squad makes lot of sense.
The 32-year-old would not only add the strike depth in the squad but also be a good option from the bench as well.
The journey of Lambert has been equally remarkable. Only five seasons ago, he was playing in League two, and now he is selected for the World Cup and could represent one of the biggest clubs in the world in few months’ time.
