Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has confirmed that he is close to agreeing a new deal with the club.

The Scottish giants have recently agreed new deals with Tom Rogic and Kieran Tierney and it seems that Griffiths is next in line.

The fans will be delighted to see that Celtic are working hard to hold on to their best players.

Griffiths has been a valuable player for Rodgers and the former Liverpool manager will want to keep him at the club for as long as possible. The striker has a contract until 2021.

The Celtic star has confirmed that he wishes to stay at Celtic for a long time and score 100 goals for them.

It will be interesting to see whether he can hold down a regular starting berth next season. Celtic have just broken their transfer record to sign Odsonne Edouard and the Frenchman is expected to lead the line for Rodgers.

Speaking to the media, Griffiths said: “We are inching further forward on that. It’s getting closer and there’s not far to go. We are about 85 per cent done now. There’s just a couple of tweaks needed and then it will be done. I see my best years at Celtic. I’d like to get to 100 goals. If I don’t get to that mark next season then I may as well quit football. I need two goals but it feels like I’ve not had the chance to get there but this season that lies ahead I’m sure I will get there. I’ve still got two and a bit years to go on my current deal. But the fact that they are even talking about a new contract gives me joy and delight that I am going to be here for basically the rest of my career. When it does get done and signed I will be delighted.”
