Liverpool youngster Jordon Ibe produced another scintillating display as the Reds managed to secure a slender victory at Anfield against Turkish giants, Besiktas in the first leg of the Europa League knockouts.
The academy graduate has been turning heads around Anfield since his return to the club after a successful loan spell at Derby County. The English winger has freshened up Liverpool’s attack with his dazzling skills and breathtaking pace.
Following some cracking displays against Tottenham and Everton, Rodgers put his faith in the England starlet in a big European clash and Ibe delivered.
The young winger wreaked havoc down the right side and won the penalty that eventually won the game for his side. Ibe’s pace and intelligence was almost unplayable at times as the teenager ran rings around Besiktas’ Ramon Motta.
Jordon Ibe completed more take ons than any other player in the competition on Thursday. With the likes of Lallana, Sturridge and Can looking off colour on an important European night, Jordon Ibe stole the show and showcased his outstanding talent and maturity that belies his years.
With Raheem Sterling’s injury and Lazar Markovic’s European ban, Brendan Rodgers’ decision to recall Jordon Ibe from loan continues to look like a masterstroke as the young attacker continues to inspire his side to impressive results week in week out.
Further, the likes of Sterling and Ibe leaving their mark on the first team are a testament to Liverpool’s impressive academy and the incredible array of young talents the Merseysiders have on their hands.
