Liverpool star rejects £80,000-per-week contract offer

Liverpool vice captain Jordan Henderson has been in talks with the club over a new contract over the last few months. According to recent reports, the former Sunderland man has rejected an offer believed to be around  £80,000 a week.

Both parties were locked in talks over a long term contract, however the player and the club are at an impasse after the reported offer was rejected in November.

Henderson has just over a year left on his current deal and is looking for a significant pay rise following his latest exploits on the pitch. The England international has developed into a regular first teamer at Anfield and has established himself as one of the best central midfielders in the league this season.

It is believed that Henderson’s current contract sees him earn around £65,000 a week and the midfielder would like an offer of around £100,000, similar to what Gerrard earned a decade ago.

Liverpool’s strict pay policy has seen them struggle to reach an agreement with Raheem Sterling earlier this season and Jordan Henderson is a new entry to that list. Having lost Suarez last season, Liverpool cannot afford to lose the likes of Henderson and Sterling.

Whether FSG decide to give our mega-money contracts to their players remains to be seen, but Henderson and Sterling have certainly earned their pay rise.
