Everton defender John Stones has been forced to leave his home and stay in a hotel this week. The England defender fears for his safety as angry Everton fans retaliate after his transfer request.
John Stones submitted a transfer request in order to force a move to Chelsea this summer. Although his request was rejected immediately, Everton fans are not happy with this decision.
The angry Evertonians hurled abuse at him as he graced the pitch during Everton’s clash with Barnsley. The fans took their protests and abuse to the player’s home in Cheshire and have forced the young defender to leave his home and stay in a hotel.
Manager Roberto Martinez reflected on the situation and claimed that Stones is one Everton’s most loved assets and that the whole scenario is very emotional.
He also claimed that Chelsea’s approach is not right that the authorities should look into it.
“It’s been a really emotional period for everyone involved. The football authorities need to act. We cannot allow one of our players to be so exposed. The competition is well under way and it’s disrespectful to the fans.
“The football authorities should not allow that to happen any more. And not just at Everton.
“There are certain ways of doing deals”, he said.
It appears that Stones might have to continue this season at Everton after the Toffees rejected a fourth bid from Chelsea. The young England defender will have a lot to do if he wants to win over the Goodison faithful once again.
