The Jackson Martinez transfer saga is taking a fresh twist with each passing day. Several media outlets have been claiming that Colombian striker who has a €35m release clause is set to join Italian giants AC Milan in the summer transfer window. However, as per fresh developments the striker could be on his way to Atletico Madrid.

Gianluca Di Marzio staff Fabrizio Romano claims that talks are ongoing between Martinez and Atlético as the Spanish side are trying to convince the player to join them.

Madrid based media outlet MARCA have also dedicated a full page cover story claiming the Porto striker is set to join the Vicente Calderon outfit.

Portuguese media outlet A Bola also report that Atletico are willing to pay the buyout clause for the 28 year old and and the La Liga is a destination which greatly pleases the hitman. Another Spanish media outlet Sport also has followed suit claiming that Atletico want Martinez to replace Mario Mandzukic, the latter who is on his way to join Italian Champions Juventus.

Martinez has also been linked with Arsenal and the striker didn’t hide his admiration for the Gunners in a recent interview where he openly stated that Arsenal are a great team.

Di Marzio has a concrete report on the story claiming that both AC Milan and Inter are currently in a duel to sign Monaco midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia and once that race is resolved, the Rossoneri will focus on Martinez.

Milan though are confident that they can fend off Atletico’s interest. The Italians already have an agreement in place with the player and his agent but will not sign him to a contract without a medical first. But at the moment no trip to Chile (where the Copa America is ongoing) is scheduled by the Milan officials.

If Atletico try to sign Martinez, they will have to follow the guidelines of the contract, which involves paying the exit clause within 60 days but have to risk him signing without a medical. Moreover, Martinez’s agent will have to go back on the ‘verbal agreement’ he made with Milan.

Its getting interesting with each passing day. But who will sign Jackson Martinez after all?
