Inter Milan playmaker, and dirty flirt in chief, Wesley Sneijder has once again flitted his eyebrows longingly in the direction of Old Trafford by admitting that he would find the offer of moving to Manchester United at some point in the future too enticing to turn down.
The Dutch star has been quoted in this morning’s Daily Star (try and stick with me) as saying;
”If somebody asks me if I will ever play for Manchester United, it’s impossible for me to say no. How can you say that if the chance came you would not play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.
I don’t think there is any player in the world who could publically rule out ever playing for Manchester United, and if they did I would doubt they were telling the truth.”
Sneijder has already plied his trade at some of the top clubs in Europe, numbering Ajax and Real Madrid amongst his former employers, but the 26-year-old seems almost hell-bent on adding United’s name to his already impressive CV;
“The Premier League, in terms of top clubs, is the strongest in the world, and it would be nice to finish my career saying I have played at the very top in Spain, Italy, and England.
There is not many who can say they have done that, and if that does happen for me I would only want it to be with Manchester United.”
Sneijder’s apparent revelation comes less than a week after his agent Soren Lerby confessed that negotiations over extending his client’s current deal at Inter had broken down, thus casting the reigning UEFA Club Midfielder of the Year’s long-term future into doubt – with Lerby claiming in an interview with De Telegraaf that the Italian champions had ‘broken their promise’;
“Financially we can’t work out a deal. Negotiations have been pulled off and will only be restarted if Inter will show an opening.
Wesley was contacted by clubs across Europe after the World Cup final, but he was very happy in Italy at Inter. He felt he couldn’t leave the club after just one season and the very flattering words of owner Massimo Moratti, who stated he would be the leader for the coming years.
Wesley would get a fantastic wage and he would get a clause with a high transfer fee. Unfortunately Inter couldn’t keep their promise and their attitude gives him an awkward feeling.”
Lerby’s comments can be easily construed as the typical scheister mumblings of an agent in search of a nice, fat signing-on fee. However, when coupled with Sneijder’s repeated utterances of love for the English top flight and for Sir Alex Ferguson‘s side in particular – a feeling of ‘inevitability’ is starting to swell in the hearts of United fans the world over.
Or am I just getting carried away at the prospect of watching Sneijder weave his magic in the Premier League on a weekly basis?
