Inter Milan 2-1 Chelsea
UEFA Champions League
24 February 2010
Inter Milan held on for a 2-1 win in the first leg at the San Siro.
Internazionale started out strong with a third minute goal from Milito to make it 1-0. He received a pass in the box, took a good first touch to beat a defender and scored on a great shot to the near post. Chelsea came back and had most of the chances for the rest of the first half but couldn’t score by halftime.
The Blues would find an equalizer early in the second half as Kalou scored on a shot that went off the fingertips of Cesar. The Inter goalkeeper should have saved the shot but misplayed it. With the match tied, Inter Milan would score only four minutes later with a strike from Cambiasso in the 55th minute. It was a cross headed away by the Chelsea defense and volleyed by Cambiasso into the back of the net.
It was a terrific strike from the Inter player and enough to get a 2-1 win. The home side continued to get chances but generally played defensive with the one goal lead. Chelsea had lots of possession but couldn’t get much going and will head back to Stamford Bridge with a 1 goal deficit.
