Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has talked up the potential of key player Paul Pogba to become one of the best players in the world, as the Old Lady look to kick start their 2015/16 European campaign on the right note.
Juventus are the visitors to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium to face the current Premier League leaders, and Allegri has saluted the coveted Frenchman, who was courted this summer by Chelsea among others, but is of the opinion the 22-year-old has plenty room for improvement.
Allegri believes Pogba has all the qualities to become the best, and now that he has taken on the challenge of wearing the iconic Juventus ‘number 10’ shirt, he has the quality to live up to it’s iconic status. Famous former players wearing the ‘number 10’ shirt at Juventus include Liam Brady, Michel Platini, Roberto Baggio, Alessandro del Piero and, most recently, Carlos Tevez.
Allegri was speaking to UEFA’s official website, and when asked about how highly he rates the midfielder, said: “His mission is to improve on last season. He’s 22 and he has a lot of room for improvement.
“He has taken on the challenge of wearing the No10 shirt but he has the quality to live up to it. He’s currently one of the best midfielders around, but he can become the very best.”
Pogba will line-up against one of his potential suitors in Manchester City on Tuesday night, and after the Bianconeri’s slow start to their league campaign, will be expected to inspire them in the high-octane encounter. He has had adequate rest for the game as he played only one half in Juve’s struggling draw with Chievo at the weekend.
