A statement on the Owls’ official website read, ” Sheffield Wednesday have signed Manchester United defender Marnick Vermijl for an undisclosed fee. The Belgian has penned a three and a half year contract at Hillsborough. ”
“Vermijl, 23, is a highly rated prospect who was tipped for regular first team football by Sir Alex Ferguson. Part of that glowing endorsement came on the back of Vermijl’s versatility – primarily a right back, the youngster is equally adept all the way across the rearguard.
“Vermijl has also represented Belgium at every level from Under-17s to Under-21s, earning 43 caps in total and scoring five times. He will wear shirt number 36 for the Owls,” it added.
