Back in November 2014, Matt Dickinson of The Times wrote a brilliant article on Chelsea’s problems, where he wrote “the greatest challenge Chelsea face now is not winning the Champions League but grooming and bringing in players into first team squad from the academy.”
Each and every year, Chelsea do sign a hell lot of talented young players from all over the world. But how many of them goes on to make it to the senior team?
Jose Mourinho has found it difficult to nurture young talents from the academy. To be honest, the Portuguese is simply not good at it. Young players are wasted on loan and ends up playing in a different club after few years.
It’s high time, Chelsea need to protect their best young talents and make sure they get sufficient game time at the club.
One of such highly talented young players is Dominic Solanke who is currently plying trade at Vitesse on loan.
The exciting 18-year-old forward is seen as an ‘exceptional’ talent who has all the potential to represent the Chelsea senior team in future.
Vitesse Peter Bosz has ushered heaps of praise on the Chelsea youngster, saying he is a rare talent.
“He’s still so young, but in many ways been a real talent,” says Almere City FC coach Maarten Stekelenburg in Voetbal International.
“But he is still just a kid,” commented Vitesse coach Peter Bosz as quoted by SoccerNews.
“You see he is incredibly talented, he has exceptional qualities. Such a footballer, I have rarely seen. And I mean, especially at that age. It’s really incredible when you see what he does.”
Solanke has been in impressive form for Vitesse, where he scored four goals and grabbed an assist to his name in 11 appearances.
