Besiktas board member Erdal Torunogullari has stated that the Turkish club has reached a partnership agreement with Premier League giants Chelsea. The deal involves close co-operation between the first teams and academies, training support and joint scouting projects. The agreement might also see young Chelsea players go on loan deals to the Turkish club in the near future.
Besiktas will play the wages to most of the players thanks to the lucrative television deal in Turkey. The Blues have been criticized for so many young players which has led to the growth of their enormous squad size. This summer, Chelsea sent 26 players out on loan.
Torunogullari who had recently visited Chelsea academy to discuss the agreement, while Besiktas took on Tottenham in the Europa League says Besiktas have the finances to pay significant higher wages to players. Of late, Chelsea were not able to find clubs who take take their players on loan due to high wage demands. Besiktas meanwhile helped themselves to Demba Ba in the summer agreeing to pay the 29 year old a salary worth £80,000-a-week.
Besiktas administrative director Semih Usta recently claimed, “We made our short-to-long-term plans and will do our best to transform Beşiktaş into a club that pays particular attention to youth infrastructure, facilities and scouting.” The Black Eagles as they are known have a network of 65 football academies in every region of the country as well as Germany, England, Holland and as far afield as Nigeria.
