A few days ago we had reported that David De Gea’s contract extension could become a real headache for Manchester United as Real Madrid are willing to end till the end of next season to sign the Spanish goalkeeper on a free transfer.
However, there is some good news for Manchester United fans as super agent Jorge Mendes has claimed to BBC that his client is happy at United and will stay at the club next season.
Mendes said, “He has one year left on his contract and I think that he will stay in Manchester. The player will decide, but he’s happy there, at the moment.”
De Gea has entered the final 18 months of his contract for the Old Trafford side after arriving from Atletico Madrid in 2011 in a £18.3m deal. The 24 year old has been in stunning form this season but hasn’t signed a contract extension as of yet. It is believed that the hierarchy at United are clam over the situation and know that the player will sign an extension eventually.
Mendes’ comments will come as huge respite for the United faithful. Over the past we have seen, the prospect for playing for Real Madrid can turn many a player’s mind. For De Gea, the prospect of returning to his home city and given that his pop star girlfriend Edurne Garcia Almagro is also in Madrid will also be a huge lure.
Mendes also said that Radamel Falcao who is on loan from Monaco, will be at a top club whether or not United sign him on a permanent deal. “If he will not stay in Manchester, he will play for sure in one of the biggest teams in Europe.”
