Ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Leicester City, Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has confirmed in his press conference that Darren Fletcher is undergoing a medical at West Ham Unitd ahead of his proposed transfer move.
As reported by the BBC, Van Gaal said, “He is now in West Ham, so we have to wait and see. He is my third captain so he is an important guy in the dressing room. “I like him as a human being and a player, so we will miss him.”
Fletcher joined the Old Trafford club as a trainee and made his debut for in 2003. In his long career at Old Trafford, he has won five Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and two League Cups under the legendary reign of Sir Alex Ferguson. West Ham would benefit from his vast experience, as the Hammers are looking to secure European football.
Fletcher has made only five starts this season and it is believed that he is moving away from United to secure more game time on the pitch. Sam Allardyce’s side are currently seventh in the table and only four points behind United in fourth.
Fletcher’s acquisition represents nothing short of a coup as it would be a huge boost for the side that have an outside prospect of achieving Champions League football for the first time in their history.
