What I said earlier this morning turned out to be true – Crespo is on his way to Inter Milan from Chelsea in a slightly complicated 2 year deal. His departure will leave Sheva, Drogba and Kalou as Chelsea’s main strikers (following the sale of Gudjohnsen and now Crespo’s transfer).
Interestlingly, Inter seem to have gotten their player – one they sold for 16.8 mil three years ago – back for free. Crespo’s move from Chelsea to Inter is a free transfer (and a 2-year deal), with Chelsea retaining the option to recall Crespo after one year.
The ‘free’ transfer has much to do with Crespo’s desperation to leave the club, although it represents very bad business on Chelsea’s part. Crespo also appears to have taken a cut in wages. Inter have a steal in my view, and considering how successful Crespo has been in Italy, Inter look a much improved side now (Vieira in the middle, Crespo upfront) and will be a force to be reckoned with in the Champions League.
Who will Chelsea move for now? Carlos Tevez is ‘unsettled’, and while the media has been linking him with Manchester United for the last week, Tevez had been linked with Chelsea long before that. Whether Tevez will fit in to Chelsea’s system is a different story but he’s a powerful striker and his addition to any squad in the Premiership would strengthen that side.
