Borussia Dortmund have warned Liverpool not to waste their time in making bids for midfielder Christian Pulisic.
The German club insists they have no intention of selling Pulisic in January amid fresh reports linking the U.S. international with a move to Anfield. Liverpool retain a strong interest in Pulisic, despite seeing a bid of £11m rejected in the summer.
Michael Zorc, the BVB Sporting director, told Bild last month, “it’s not worth the effort for Liverpool” to make a formal approach for the 18-year-old when the transfer window reopens in January.
Bild, however, maintain their stance that Dortmund would prefer selling Pulisic to Liverpool, managed by their former manager, Jurgen Klopp, than to other clubs, but Zorc has emphasised again that the player will remain in Germany.
“We have communicated very clearly that we won’t sell Christian, and that he’s very much part of our plans,” Zorc told Bild on Tuesday. He continued, “Liverpool don’t need to waste their time. They can save their money.”
Pulisic is one of the rising talents in world football and is under contract until 2019. There were concerns over his prospects for first-team football at the Westfalenstadion before the 2016-17 season, but he is enjoying a breakthrough campaign under Thomas Tuchel. He has made 16 appearances for Dortmund this season, in which he has scored two goals and set up a further six.
Daily Mail reported last month that Liverpool were ready to make an offer in the region of £25m for Pulisic. However, it seems Dortmund are reluctant to sell their prized asset at the moment, and a potential January move to Liverpool is highly unlikely.
