Reports in the British press this morning are suggesting that Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez has become frustrated with his lack of first-team football at Old Trafford, and wants a move elsewhere this January.
The Sun have revealed that the Mexico international is concerned leading up to the World Cup that he has not had the time on the pitch that he would want, and as such is eager to switch elsewhere.
Chicharito has only started four Premier League games this season and has been brought on as a substitute on ten occasions. Despite featuring in 14 games, a total of 515 minutes on the pitch is the equivalent to less than six full matches.
With Juan Mata thought to be on the verge of moving from Chelsea to the Premier League champions for a club record price, David Moyes’ attacking options are set to increase also.
With this in mind, should Hernandez be looking to leave United?
There is no doubt that a special bond between player and club exist, as Chicharito is grateful to United for giving him his big break in Europe. Over the course of three seasons in Manchester, Hernandez has scored some vitally important goals for the club, and has broken the ten-goal barrier every campaign.
However, with Hernandez only scoring two goals so far in the Premier League this season, it shows his drop down the preferences at the club. Although he will get the chance to play in the short term while Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney struggle for fitness, the Mexico international will know that he will be back on the bench once the pair are back fit and firing.
Despite the fact that he will certainly have a place in his national side for the World Cup whether his playing time at club level increases or not, Chicharito will be keen to go into the tournament in Brazil match fit and on form.
Regardless of the player’s connection to the Old Trafford club, it seems like it is time for him to now be selfish, and move elsewhere to get regular action.
Whether United would be willing to sell him to a Premier League rival remains to be seen, while Inter are also believed to be interested in the star. With a price tag of £15 million in the offing, surely plenty of suitors will circle if United allow him to leave.
