The big race of Thursday at Cheltenham is the is a talent packed Grade 1 showdown the Stayers’ Hurdle. With no less than six runners all priced between 7/2 and 15/2 at the time of writing this is certain to be a thrilling three mile race.
Flooring Porter was fantastic in the 2021 Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham, so it is no shock to see that he is one of the favourites for this year’s Festival Thursday showpiece. However, Gavin Cromwell’s seven-year-old has only made it to the winning post once in company with his rider in three outings since that success, having been pulled up at Punchestown last April and falling at Navan in November.
But we’re not letting that put us off backing Flooring Porter, despite him drifting slightly to 7/2 with The Pools. Of course there were no crowds when he triumphed last year Cromwell due to restrictions caused by the pandemic, but Cromwell reports Flooring Porter to be in fine form as he bids to retain his title.
“He’s good, we’re happy with him. He’s been here for a couple of days now and he’s settled in nicely. He seems in good nick,” said the County Meath trainer. “It’s going to be a little different with the crowds here this year but I think he’s grown up, so hopefully it won’t be a problem.”
