Chelsea have been defensively solid this season, but there are a couple of reasons why Jose Mourinho would be looking for reinforcements in his backline. While captain John Terry, at 34, does not have more than two or three years at the highest level left in him, his centre-back partner Gary Cahill has looked shaky throughout the campaign.
A story by Esteban Manuel at Spanish newspaper AS though, has started a surprising rumour. According to the journalist, also known as ‘Manolete’, Mourinho is closely monitoring the situation of Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.
The story, relayed here by Le 10 Sport, states that Ramos has not agreed a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu. He is also being followed by French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
The 28 year-old has played over 400 games for Real since joining from Sevilla in 2006, winning 3 La Ligas, 2 Copa Del Reys and 1 Champions League title.
Mourinho, of course, managed Ramos during his time in the Spanish capital between 2010 and 2013. Even though relations between the two remained fractious for long periods, there is no doubting the quality that the Spaniard brings to his side.
Current Real manager Carlo Ancelotti though, has made it clear that he expected Ramos to stay at the club. “I know that the club wants to extend his contract and that he wants to stay”, said the Italian.
