Chelsea are keen to sign a centre back to replace their ageing captain John Terry and it seems the Premier League champions are looking to the MLS.
According to reports, the Blues have submitted an offer for the New York Red Bulls centre back Matt Miazga. Miazga is a Plish-American defender who is highly rated in America.
The young defender has received offers from other Premier League clubs such as Leicester and Stoke. But the MLS youth star believes that he should stay and continue his development in America for now.
“The ultimate goal is to play on the highest level, but right now I’m happy in New York. I can still grow here and become a better player. When the time comes – I will be ready for Europe”, he said.
Coaches in the MLS rate him as the best prospect in the league and have claimed that he can go on to become the best defender in the world for a decade.
Miazga is a ball playing defender who likes to be proactive and initiates attacking moves from the back. Much like Terry, Miazga is a natural leader and a model professional on and off the pitch.
Despite rejecting the offers from Chelsea, Stoke and Leicester, Miazga has confirmed that his style of play suits the Premier League and one day he hopes to play there.
“The EPL is a very intriguing proposition. I love that league – it’s very competitive and there’s a lot of passion involved. Hopefully one day I will have an opportunity to play there. I believe my skillset fits the way football is played there”, he concluded.
