Chelsea have submitted a surprise offer for the former Manchester City manager and the current Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini.
It is understood that the Italian has had a falling out with several of his players after the defeat against Lazio and would consider a move away from Italy.
According to reports in Italy, Chelsea have submitted a 17 million euro (8.5 million euros per season for 2 years) offer for the Inter Milan manager.
Mancini has already proven himself in the Premier League by winning the title with Manchester City and Chelsea are willing to appoint him as a permanent manager in the summer.
Dutchman Guus Hiddink is set to see out this season as an interim manager and Abramovich is hoping to replace him with Mancini.
The Italian is still loved and respected at Etihad for his contributions to the club and it would be a major surprise to see him take over at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues were expected to go for the likes of Pep Guardiola and Diego Simone, but Manchester City appear to be favourites to land the Bayern Munich manager and Simeone plans to stay at Vicente Calderon for now.
It will be interesting to see if Mancini accepts Chelsea’s offer and takes over in the summer.
Although his quality is not in doubt, the Inter Milan manager would be a pretty underwhelming appointment considering the fact that he is replacing Jose Mourinho.
