According to London Evening Standard, Jose Mourinho is set to offer a pre-contract agreement to Sami Khedira. High flying Chelsea have started the season extremely well and will be looking to build on their good start when they face Stoke City later today.
Sami Khedira,s future has been subject to intense speculation as the World Cup winner nears the end of his current contract at Real Madrid. Club manager, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Madrid are willing to extend the deal, however they have not heard back from Khedira’s representatives yet.
There have been rumours that the player is unsettled in Spain and will seriously consider a move away, should there be a concrete offer. The likes of Bayern Munich and Arsenal have been linked with the German midfielder, but reports as of today, state that Mourinho is keen on bringing Khedira to Stamford Bridge.
Having worked with him earlier at Real Madrid, Mourinho remains a keen admirer of the German and believes that his team could do with some strengthening in the central midfield department. Chelsea have struggled in the absence of Matic earlier this season against Newcastle and the lack of back ups has forced Mourinho to delve into the transfer market again.
Nearing the end of his contract, Sami Khedira is a relatively cheap option and brings with him an ocean of experience, having won almost everything at club and international level. The combative German will add tenacity and experience to the Chelsea midfield and more importantly, provide a much needed alternative for the fantastic Nemanja Matic.
