One of the reasons behind Chelsea’s poor start to the season is their leaky defence. The Premier League champions have struggled to defend and have shipped out 12 goals already.
Jose Mourinho has already ordered his scouts to find him a replacement for the faltering Branislav Ivanovic. After his decision to bench Terry in the game against Arsenal, it seems the Portuguese is looking to secure a future after the Chelsea legend as well.
With the lack of quality centre backs in the market, Mourinho has apparently turned his attentions towards the French league.
Marseille defender, Nicolas Nkoulou has been identified as a long term replacement for Terry. According to L’Equipe (via talkSPORT), Chelsea are looking to sign the Cameroon international, who is nearing the end of his contract.
Nkoulou is a strong and imposing centre back whose abilities will compliment with that of Kurt Zouma. After the signing of Baba Rahman, it seems Mourinho is keen to build a younger defense for the future.
Earlier in the week reports emerged that Mourinho is also looking at Valencia full back, Jose Luis Gaya.
Nkoulou is already looking to leave Marseille and if Chelsea’s interest is serious, there is little doubt that the player will try and force a move. With his contract expiring soon, the French outfit will also look to cash in on their prized asset.
