Branislav Ivanovic is likely to agree a new deal with Chelsea according to his agent Zoran Krneta.
The Serbian has been sidelined with an injury he picked up during the last international break. His poor form this season has fuelled rumours that Chelsea could be willing to part ways with the experienced defender.
Ivanovic was one of the best defenders in the Premier League last season and has been abysmal so far this season. The Serbian has been a weak link for his side and has made several crucial errors that have cost his side dearly.
Previously it was thought that Ivanovic will move on at the end of his contract in June and the likes of Inter Milan are interested.
Speaking to an Italian outlet, his agent Zoran Krneta said that Ivanovic will probably sign a new deal with the Premier League champions.
Although he refused to rule out a move to Inter Milan, it is unlikely that Inter will pursue his client after a new deal is signed.
“Most probably he will renew his deal with Chelsea,” he told InterLive.it.
However, when asked about Inter’s reported interest, Krneta said: “In football everything is possible.”
Furthermore, Krneta also mentioned that there is no chance of Ivanovic leaving Chelsea in January. If he has to leave the club it will be in the summer.
Krneta’s claims makes sense considering that Chelsea are lacking cover in the defensive departments and Ivanovic is still a very useful player if he can sort out his inconsistency/lack of concentration.
As for Chelsea, the Blues are frustrated with the Serbian’s repeated mistakes. If the player signs a new deal, it might not go down too well with the fans.
