Chelsea Injury News Marco van Ginkel

Chelsea midfielder, Marco van Ginkel, who is currently on a season long loan to AC Milan, has suffered a serious ankle injury that could rule him out action for at least two months.

The highly rated 22-year-old Dutch midfielder suffered a ligament damage in training with AC Milan, following a tough tackle from teammate Sulley Muntari.

Van Ginkel’s career has been blighted by series of injuries so far. Last season he suffered an anterior cruciate injury, and early September was ruled out with a separate ankle problem.

Chelsea, having an avalanche of midfielders at disposal, chose to sent him on loan, to get regular games under his belt, but his injury records should prove to be a headache for the London giants.

“I am really sorry for Van Ginkel,” Milan CEO Adriano Galliani told the club’s official website (via IBT). “What a pity. After 30 years of watching training sessions, I know that he is a player with a great talent.

“We hope he will recover as soon as possible and that he is able to showcase his talent. He has extraordinary feet, he is a good person and intelligent. All my best wishes for him for a speedy recovery in order to give a helping hand in our team.”

Van Ginkel has struggled to make any bright impression in Italy so far, mainly because of injuries, and it remains to be seen, whether Chelsea take precautionary measures and bring him back to West London for proper treatment.

Chelsea have had bad experience while dealing players suffering from cruciate ligament injury before, the best example of Michael Essien comes to mind, and the Blues will be looking to avoid another such situation in future.

Van Ginkel has been left on crutches, with coach Filippo Inzaghi has expressed his disappointment in losing such a talented player.

AC Milan coach Inzaghi said, via London 24: “It’s a shame. It was a hard challenge but not premeditated.

“The first one to apologise was Sulley. If we didn’t train as intensely as we do, then we wouldn’t win games. It wasn’t a killer tackle, otherwise I would have intervened.

“We are disappointed because we lose a player that would have played and who was going through a good spell.

“Our thoughts are with Marco, it’s sad to see him leave with crutches.”

Although it won’t affect Chelsea’s first team directly, but surely they must have considered Van Ginkel as a prospect for future. And certainly, his recurrent injuries aren’t good signs for the club and for the player himself.
