Chelsea in talks to sign Bologna’s Amadou Diawara

Bologna midfielder Amadou Diawara seems to be closing in on a move to the Premier League.

The 18 year old defensive midfielder from Bologna has sent his representatives to London and is having talks with the Premier League champions Chelsea according to reports in Italy (via Telegraph).

Although the Serie A midfielder is being courted by the likes of Juventus, Chelsea are believed to be in the pole position.

The Bologna youngster has been very impressive this season and has averaged 1.7 tackles and 2.3 interceptions per game in the league.

Diawara could be a handy backup option for the Serbian Nemanja Matic now. Chelsea are lacking defensive depth in the central midfield and Diawara’s signing makes complete sense.

Diawara has been compared to the former Chelsea star Michael Essien and it is easy to see why. The young defensive midfielder is supremely fit and has played in all but one of Bologna’s games this season.

Also, his tough-tackling, tenacious style of play has been very impressive and similar to that of the former Chelsea player Essien.
