Chelsea, Everton and Middlesbrough deserved penalties

It’s been a weekend of missed penalties – by the referees – this week with the Right Result.

Top of the list is Alan Wiley’s change of mind that infuriated Everton at Stoke City.

The Staffordshire official appeared to point to the spot after Leon Cort handled but, wrongly, altered his decision after consulting his assistant.

All ended well for Everton, as it did for Chelsea in the Clash of the Cash at Manchester City.

That was despite the impressive Blues being denied a valid penalty when Micah Richards felled Nicolas Anelka.

Not such a happy outcome for Middlesbrough at Portsmouth, though.

Boro could have claimed a hard-earned point if young ref Stuart Attwell had given the affirmative decision when Stewart Downing was pushed in the box by Pompey new boy Nadir Belhadj.
