Louisiana vs Marshall News
The Rajin’ Cajuns of Louisiana enter the New Orleans Bowl with a 12-1 record, with the only blemish of the season coming in a season-opening loss to the Texas Longhorns. However, five of those wins were decided by a field goal or less.
Outside of that, Louisiana head coach Billy Napier’s squad has been perfect. While not the offensive juggernaut from a year ago that featured current 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell, but the offense hummed nonetheless.
However, Napier will not be at the helm for the Rajin Cajuns at the Superdome tonight after accepting the offer to become the new head coach at the University of Florida.
It is important to note that Louisiana will be without leading rusher Chris Smith, as well as Levi Lewis’ favorite target Peter LeBanc.
Louisiana vs Marshall Preview
Both of these teams can flat out score.
I’m worried about what the Louisiana offense is going to look like with so many key players out. Surely Lewis will hope to end his college football career with a bang after being a three-year starter for the Rajun’ Cajuns. But beit your two best weapons, as well as a starting tackle and a first-time head coach.
Marshall boasts one of the best red zone defenses in the entire country. With the way Louisiana will almost surely try to control the tempo and likely utilize Lewis’ running ability, that bodes well for Marshall.
On the other side, quarterback Grant Wells and the Thundering Herd would love to see this game turn into a shootout. Wells’ threw 16 touchdowns to 10 interceptions compared to last year’s mark of 18-9, but saw his yardage and completion percentage increase.
This line has moved quite a bit since the opening of ULL -7. But since that time, The players I mentioned above have been ruled out for Louisiana. Wells was also questionable for Marshall at first, but is getting the nod in this one.

I’m going to look to keep it simple and side with the sharps and take Marshall +4. The line has moved a lot, which might make you believe there’s no meat left on the bone. I disagree. I think Marshall has the chance to win this game outright.
