Liverpool desperately needs a win on the road against Birmingham City to keep their Champions League hopes alive for next season.

Birmingham v Liverpool Preview

Birmingham has guaranteed their safety from relegation but remains too far back to contend for a spot in Europe next season. Liverpool are likely to get at least a Europa League spot but are still fighting for 4th place or the last Champions League spot.

They have been inconsistent in recent weeks with a 2-0-2 record and unable to get results away from Anfield. Birmingham have seen their form drop in recent weeks but they were able to get a draw lat weekend against Arsenal. Liverpool are four points back of 4th place Tottenham and their chances of the Champions League would likely end with any loss. Realistically, they need to win every remaining match to have a chance.

Birmingham are in the middle of the table with 45 points and not much left to play for. City have been one of the best defensive sides in the Premiership but their major problem is their lack of scoring. They’ve scored only 33 goals this season (Liverpool has 53) and usually have to rely on clean sheets to get wins. Liverpool’s away form has been horrible and the main reason they have fallen in the table.

Neither team is in particularly good form of late so any result is possible. Liverpool have one of the best strikers in the EPL, Fernando Torres, but he’s gotten little support from the midfield. Birmingham will play solid defense and not give up many easy chances to the Reds. It should be a defensive match that ultimately ends in a draw.
