FC Barcelona star Xavi Hernandez has revealed that way back in 1999 when he was still a young and promising footballer he was offered a massive deal by Italian powerhouse AC Milan.
A Goal.com report quotes the Barcelona symbol as saying that 11 years back Milan came calling for him. At the time Xavi rejected the offer as he was looking forward to representing the club that he has always supported and loved.
Xavi said, “A very important offer came from Milan in 1999. They offered me a lot of money, but I preferred to stay here because I wanted to succeed here.”
The Euro 2008 winner also dismissed all rumours surrounding his current future at Barcelona by insisting that he is on the verge of signing a new contract with the Catalan giants that shall keep him at the Camp Nou until 2014.
“Everything is close, it just lacks the final stamp. It will be until 2014 when I am 34 and it is the contract of my life because it means I will be able to retire at Barcelona.”
Barcelona are playing great football this season and besides being at the pole position of the Spanish first division are also said to be the favourites for the UEFA Champions League this season.
