Newly promoted Ligue One side AS Monaco are reportedly on the brink of signing Zenit Saint Petersburg forward Hulk for a fee said to be around €60M.
The 26-year old has endured an indifferent debut season upon his move to the Russian Premier League side, and admitted this summer he would consider offers. For Zenit, he made 30 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals.
Upon their recent promotion back into the top-flight division, AS Monaco have been signing players of Portuguese nationality, or having been based in the country – Hulk fits the bill from his time with Primeira Liga champions Porto.
The Brazilian international was linked with a move to Chelsea for a number of season, but the deal failed to materialise. He is keep on playing for a side with plans to become heavyweights in the Champions League in the future.
Hulk has played for Vitoria, Kawasaki Frontale, Consadole Sapporo, Tokyo Verdy, Porto, and Zenit Saint Petersburg.
AS Monaco manager Claudio Raneiri has already signed a number of Hulk’s former teammates from his time with Porto – Radamel Falcao, James Rodriguez, and Joao Moutinho. The 61-year old will be hoping the side can get off to a good start.
Ranieri had wanted to sign Hulk before during his time in charge of Inter Milan, but failed to agree terms with both the club and the player.
The battle for the Ligue One title looks set to be the most exciting in recent years. Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco are expected to be the two fighting for the top-spot, and with the money spent by either sides on new recruits, it promises to be a spectacular show.
Premier League side Chelsea ruled themselves out of the running to sign Hulk only days ago, after admitting Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney was now their only summer target.
