Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he has funds at his disposal to sign players in January.
Over the last decade, the Gunners were not big spenders in the transfer market. However, the Frenchman broke the club’s transfer policy and signed Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for £42.5m last summer.
This summer, Arsenal have invested heavily in signing Alexis Sanchez, who arrived at the Emirates Stadium from Barcelona. Wenger admitted that the north London club were struggling with finances earlier.
However, the Gunners boss confirmed that Arsenal have the funds and he has no problems in spending it to bring in new faces to the club.
“There were periods when we did not have the money. What I don’t like is to spend money that I do not have. Now I have money so there is no problem spending it at all,” Wenger said, as reported by the Mirror.
“What I fought against was spending money that would have put the future of the club in danger. If we find the right player, we will do it. Without any doubt.
“There is a huge difference between the perception people have of me and the reality. I am not scared to spend money. If you go out with me one night, you will understand that!”
When asked about signing a centre-back in January, Wenger said: “If we find one we will do it. Without any doubt. If we find the right player we will do it.”
“I think we are getting better but that’s what’s at stake. We have to show that in the final part of the season because we go now in the Premier League where we need to win the games. After we have the FA Cup and the Champions League and without defensive solidity we have no future.”
