According to Monaco manager, Leonardo Jardim, Geoffrey Kondogbia could be allowed to leave for financial reasons this summer.
It is believed that Monaco are primed for a clear out in order to raise some funds and Kondogbia, along with a few other players are expendables.
The former Sevilla man has been linked with several moves away from France and Arsenal are thought to be keen admirers. Wenger is desperate to strengthen his midfield this summer and Kondogbia is an ideal upgrade on the likes of Flamini and Arteta.
The robust defensive midfielder will add much needed defensive cover and tenacity to Arsenal’s midfield, much like Matic at Chelsea. Kondogbia can operate as a defensive midfielder as well as a box-to-box one and would be ideal for Wenger’s pressing football.
Jardim issued a hands off warning on some of his players but claimed that others could leave for ‘financial reasons’.
“I know about everything that could happen,” he told L’Equipe.
“I would just like it all to be done with as soon as possible.
“With Vadim and Luis, it was quite clear: Bernardo Silva and Martial will stay, as will Dirar, Subasic, Raggi, Elderson and Toulalan.
All the others could leave for financial reasons.”
Wenger remains a keen admirer of his compatriot and is willing to splash the cash. On paper, the pair of Ramsey and Kondogbia look like a formidable midfield setup that would allow their more expressive players like Ozil, Cazorla and Alexis to play with freedom and influence the final third of the pitch.
The Gunners have also been linked with Schneiderlin, a player of similar mould.
